Corsica, the Mediterranean island between France and Italy, is famous among trekkers for its long-distance trails, and especially one among them: the GR20 trail is by reputation the hardest in Europe. It crosses the whole island in a 200 km diagonal line, following sharp mountain ridges and up and down valleys.
We had the opportunity to trek its most interesting section over a week, and even with a 25+ kg/55+ lbs pack on the back it has been great fun. The landscapes are not really as stunning as in higher mountains, but they range from thick pine forest to barren rocky peaks and their variety is certainly an asset that contributes to the popularity of this trek.
